Maintenance methods for capacity recovery of lithium battery packs

The capacity recovery and maintenance methods for lithium battery packs can be approached from the following multiple aspects:

Temperature treatment method

Placing lithium battery packs in a low-temperature environment, such as the freezer compartment of a refrigerator, can slow down the chemical reactions inside the batteries and reduce leakage. This may have some effect on situations where battery leakage leads to a decline in endurance. However, excessive low temperatures may cause irreversible damage to the battery. Therefore, when using this method, one should be cautious and strictly control the temperature and time. Wrap the old lithium batteries that will automatically shut down with cling film tightly. When wrapping, try to make it fit as tightly as possible. There are three layers in total, inside and outside, to ensure that the batteries are in a vacuum state. Then, wrap three layers of newspapers outside the cling film to completely seal the lithium battery. Put it in the freezer of the refrigerator. After 48 hours, take out the battery, remove the paper film wrapped around it, let it cool for a while, and then charge it.

Deep discharge method

By connecting the battery to a low-voltage small light bulb to deplete the internal power of the battery and then charging it, a deeper charging effect can be achieved, which helps to activate the chemical substances inside the battery and improve its capacity and performance. However, over-discharging may also cause damage to the battery. Make sure the battery is not over-discharged during operation. The specific operation is to first fully charge the device, then disconnect the power supply and let the device run until the battery is completely drained. After that, park the device indoors or in a place with a suitable temperature, and wait for the battery to naturally discharge and enter the power-off state. Repeat the above steps until the battery is completely drained, and then charge the battery again. Observe the charging situation. If the charging speed significantly increases, it indicates that the battery capacity has recovered. Conversely, it indicates that the battery capacity is still relatively low.

Clean the contact points

The metal contact points of the battery are prone to oxidation or dirt, resulting in poor contact and affecting battery performance. Erasers or other cleaning tools can be used to clean these contact points to ensure good contact between the battery and the device, thereby improving the battery's working efficiency.

Overcharging and overdischarging method

Thoroughly discharging the battery and then recharging it can help activate it, but this method should be used with caution as both over-discharging and over-charging may have negative effects on the battery.

Hydration and repair

If the battery loses too much water, an electrolyte can be injected into the battery with a syringe. However, this method requires certain skills and experience, and not all batteries are suitable for water replenishment and repair.

Selection and reconfiguration of faulty batteries

By detecting the voltage of each battery in the battery pack, the damaged batteries are picked out and reassembled. This method is somewhat helpful for improving the overall performance of the battery pack, but it requires professional equipment and knowledge.

Equalization charging method

By regularly charging the device, the chemical imbalance inside the battery can be eliminated, thereby enhancing the battery's performance and lifespan. The specific operation is to first fully charge the device, place it indoors or in a suitable temperature area, and wait for the battery to naturally discharge and enter the critical state. Then, use a suitable charger to charge the battery until it is fully charged. During this process, ensure that the working current of the charger matches the maximum allowable current of the battery. At regular intervals (such as once a month), Repeat the above steps to maintain the chemical balance of the battery.
